Seagulls Fly Early is a durational site-specific walking performance that explores migration, cultural identity, and the experience of repeatedly building a sense of home in new places. Performed as a choreographed walk through the city, the audience can accompany the performers along a predetermined route through public space. In each city, the performance incorporates local stories and research, allowing the work to adapt to its environment while continuing its own migratory journey.
Seagulls Fly Early is a durational site-specific walking performance that explores migration, cultural identity, and the experience of repeatedly building a sense of home in new places.
Performed as a choreographed walk through the city, the piece transforms public space into a moving performance landscape. The audience is invited to accompany the performers along a predetermined route, becoming part of a shared journey through the urban environment.
The performance is based on a simple walking motif, a triola step, combined with folk dance patterns of the Carpathian and Balkan regions. This movement material continuously transforms throughout the performance, reflecting the process of migration and changing identity.
In each city, the artists conduct interviews with local communities and incorporate these stories into the performance, allowing the work to adapt to each location while maintaining its core structure. In this way, the work functions as a migrating performance—adapting to every new place while carrying its history with it.
