Lizard Beats

  • 3 Rue Fortia Marseille, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, 13001 France (map)

Lizard Beats is a rhythm-based movement training method. Through structured rhythmic systems — steps, claps and layered patterns — participants develop coordination, musicality and presence.

This week will be mainly devoted to working on footwork in relation to gravity and body weight. We will explore a variety of rhythms, both simple and complex, through an improvisational approach, in order to enrich each participant’s individual experience of embodying rhythm.

Developed by Gyula Cserepes over nearly 20 years of teaching, the method draws on the rhythmic and structural logic of Hungarian folk dances, transforming it into a distinct contemporary movement language — not through direct quotation of motifs, but through the assimilation of their internal logic. It is also grounded in somatic pedagogy. Open to all levels, it requires no prior dance experience. Each participant leaves with practical rhythmic tools and a heightened awareness of their footwork, which they can continue to develop in their own practice.
